Used as an Inkle or Band weaving Loom: Normally Inkle looms use a
looped string as a heddle and the warp thread must go over a post down to the
string where it is held tightly and then must turn at a sharp angle. This makes
it difficult to use many finer threads as a warp. The Waves, however, use standard
Texsolv heddles and the warp threads float through an eye thus allowing even
the finer threads to be used. Since there is no reed or rigid heddle the string
heddles allow the woven fabric to be as tight together as the size of the
individual warp threads, and each "shaft" can hold hundreds of heddles. A shed is created on an Inkle
loom by moving ½ of the warp threads through the other half and then making the
shed completely by stretching those threads up or down. A Wave's counterbalance
Heddle Tower
creates the shed by lifting ½ the warp threads either up or down and the other
half in the opposite direction creating a much larger shed without as much
stress or stretch. Waves positive breaking
system is created with a metal ratchet gear and dog system, and utilizes both a
maple Warp Beam and a maple Cloth Beam.Cloth
and Warp Beam handles are positioned on both sides of the loom to allow strong easy tightening. From the Warp Beam the warp
goes over The Back Top Bar and woven cloth goes over the Front Top Bar which
are both made of 1 ¼ thick maple. A tight warp can often cause
problems with the thread layers on the Warping Beam.So the fibers do not sink through the layers
it is always advised to use paper, or slats between the wraps of warp threads.
But even this will cause the sides of the threads to spread outward with a dome
appearance. As the outer edge threads spread they loose their tension compared
to the other threads. To prevent this a the Big and Small Waves Warp Beam has 8 adjustable
stainless steel pins, and the Mini Wave has "U" Brackets, that position inward to hold all the warp threads to
a set width. Each Wave comes with an Instructional DVD (Click to view scenes
or play the videos above), 200 heddles (100 per frame),
2 lease sticks, and a strong shuttle. There is also an optional STAND
available for either the Big Wave or the Small Wave that allows the weaver to sit in a chair, or weave in a vertical
position on a table. Extra heddles ordered with the Big Wave or Small Wave are
also mounted without extra charge.
> The
Big Wave and Small Wave are shipped
with the Heddle Tower removed. Easy
re-assembly of the tower with 6 screws.
Otherwise Waves come assembled and finished
with clear lacquer. Heddles are already
mounted on the Heddle Tower.

Mini Wave
The
MINI WAVE With
the easy weaving success of the Big Wave
and the Small Wave many weavers wanted
a smaller lap loom version. The Mini Wave
has all of the features available on the
larger Wave looms, but yet is only 8 inches
wide, 16 inches long, and 12 1/2 inches
high. It uses the same heddles, allows for
warps many yards long, and provides the same
easy to create 2" wide Wave shed,
yet it is small enough to easily use on
your lap or any small table. This strong
take-anywhere loom holds tight tensions
and is ideal for Inkle, tapestry, card,
and many other weavings up to 4 "
wide. Included with the loom are 200 Texsolv
heddles (100 per shaft), a 6" shuttle,
2 lease sticks, 3 sets of 4 different
sized "U" Warping Beam Brackets,
and the "Wave Instructional DVD ".
The U Brackets function the same as the
Warp Pins on the other Waves and they allow
you to change the dimensions of your Warp
Beam so the warp will stay confined and
not spread.
All of the Waves can be used for card or
tablet weaving by bringing the warp
over the top Heddle Beam. The Big Wave
and Small Wave have more width and more
room to the Front Beam than the Mini
Wave. But even the Mini Wave lap loom
can be used for card weaving.

GilmoreInkle/Belt Loom The Gilmore Inkle Belt Loom is made with a warping beam and a cloth
beam. This means you do not have to have a continuous warp to weave. It also means you can make
a much longer piece of woven material. It uses a ratchet and dog breaking system to keep the tension
tight. The dowels
are reinforced on the ends to keep them from sagging
under tension. The warping beam is 12 inches around
and will weave up to 4 inches wide, with the ability
to hold 10 yards of fine thread and 5 yards of heavy
thread. You can also do Card Weaving easily within the
wide weaving area. The Inkle Loom is 9 1/2 inches
wide X 27 inches long at the base and 12 inches
high. Constructed of poplar with strong hardwood
maple dowels. Two Inkle shuttles are available.
The regular one (included) which is 1/4"
x 1 5/8" wide x 8 1/4" long, and the smaller
Inkle shuttle ( 3/8" x 1" x 6 1/8" long) Included
with the Inkle Loom is an instructional DVD, 2 dozen heddle strings, heddle measuring
tool, 2 lease sticks, regular Inkle shuttle, and warp
to beam attachment hardware. The
loom comes assembled. You can view the instructional
DVD by clicking "PLAY" below. >

GilmoreHeddle
Tower Inkle/Belt Loom Using
the same basic Inkle loom as our regular Inkle Loom
(above) we have added a "Heddle Tower"
and removed the unneeded dowels. Instead of making and
using looped strings for heddles and having to push
your warp through the other half, the counterbalance
Heddle Tower allows
you to have a much easier rising and falling shed. The
shed is very wide and much quicker to produce with handles
on either side of the Heddle Tower. You can use much
finer threads and get an even tighter warp without worrying
about breaking your warp threads. There are also out
of the way storage holes for the Lease Sticks when you
aren't using them. You can still move the heddles
aside and do Card Weaving. 50
Texsolv heddles per harness are included, 2 Lease sticks,
and a regular shuttle. The loom comes assembled. An optional
"Portable Loom Stand" and
smaller shuttle are available.
Heddle
Tower Add-on for prior purchased Gilmore
Inkle/Belt looms If you already own an older Gilmore Inkle Loom
the Heddle Tower can be purchased separately and
easily added to your loom as a kit to replace the looped string heddle
system. 50 Texsolv heddles included per frame.
Some
Advice for Weaving with an Inkle Loom 1. It is important to have your warp
wrapped properly onto the Warping Beam. With Cloth/Warp
Beam Inkle Looms you can make much longer warps
than a "continuous warp" Inkle, and when weaving
you will want your warp tight. As you wrap the warp
on try to keep it flattened out and firmly wrapped.
Use separators for the different layers. Short pieces
of Venetian blinds are ideal, and wood "craft sticks"
will also work (though thicker). The separators should
extend past "limiters" (dowel pegs on the
Inkle/Belt looms, Warping U Brackets on the Lap Loom,
and adjustable steel pins on the Wave) so
the warp threads will not spread out past and over the
ends of the separators. 2. The warp fibers
in Inkle weaving go through string or Texsolv heddles.
This puts them very close together. With a tight
warp and fibers against each other some fibers slide
easily, but some are "sticky" and do
not slide easily against each other when making your
SHED. If they do resist you simply have to run
your finger along the area the fibers are shifting through,
loosening them up, as you switch layers for the
shed (Photos Below). This works for any Inkle Loom using string heddles,
or the Texsolv Inkle Tower looms above.
GilmorePortable
Loom Stand This stand is made of hard maple and mounts to
the bottom of the Gilmore Inkle Loom, the Gilmore Wave, and will fit other table
looms. It is
easy to mount with 4 screws to the bottom of any table or portable loom with
a solid bottom of at least 3/4 thick. The length is adjustable so you can use
your loom while sitting in a chair, or couch. It can also be used to weave vertically on a table.
The pivot axles can be adjusted so they swing tightly or loosely. This makes it
easy to work from a sitting position and allows you to rock back and forth with
your weaving movements. When not in use the whole assembly folds up under the
loom and is held there by Velcro pads.

Harp Floor Stand and Tote
Bag
In 2002 the Kromskis have added an innovative rigid
heddle loom with several innovative features. The Kromski Harp has
a warping board integral to its design; turn over the loom and you
can make your warp (five yards plus). When you get ready to travel,
take your Harp with you; it folds to be more compact (with the warp
attached) and fits neatly into the Kromski tote bag (optional).
The Harp is made of European alder wood with a clear finish.
Your Harp comes with a 10-dent heddle, 2 stick shuttles,
a pick-up stick, threading hook, 2 clamps,
warping board pegs and the very helpful warp helper.
Also included is an excellent video that explains assembly
and how to set up and weave with the Harp. The Harp is available in 16",
24" and 32" widths (actual weaving widths are slightly
smaller). The Kromski Tote,
extra heddles, extra heddle blocks (for more complex weaving) and
Stand are available separately
The optional Floor Stand
allows you to work off the table. There are places to store the
pegs that make up the back warping board. The stored pegs form
a ledge to hold shuttles, yarn or other supplies. The Harp can be
folded on the stand for storage. The Stand comes in 16", 24"
and 32" sizes to fit the three available Harp widths. The
Tote Bags are made of polycanvas and feature canvas handles
and a shoulder strap. The base of the tote is re-inforced to provide
sturdy support of your loom with its warp held in place. And there
is still plenty of room for lots of other weaving materials. Tote
Bags come in three sizes for the available Harp widths.
Note:
the 32" Harp does not have an arch on the heddle; manufacturing
constraints makes shaping the wood for this size impractical. The
Harp comes boxed as a kit but goes together quickly, especially
with the helpful video
